Meet Sherry Hanson and Ron Hanson  previous  employees of the City of Port Colborne.  

Sherry Hanson

Creator and Cofounder of Municipal By-law Advisors Inc.

Graduate of Niagara College in Law and Security.

Began a career with the City of Port Colborne in the field of By-law Services. 

Honed various enforcement skills over the past 34 years as well as creating By-laws, short form wording and set fines, introduced the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) for Parking and then expanded the system to Non-Parking AMPS. (NPAMPS)

Certified Property Standards Officer in the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers.

Started the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officer-Niagara Chapter, Chair of association for several years.

Guest speaker for Niagara College Police Foundations program.

Trained and mentored co-op students through this program in conjunction with the City of Port Colborne.

Representative for the City of Port Colborne as a member of the P.O.A. Task force since its inception, continued as a member on the Joint Board of Management for the Provincial Courts with the Region of Niagara representing the City of Port Colborne. Sitting as Chair for 2022.

Written hundreds of reports, by-laws and amendments for Council consideration.

Attending public and Council meetings in order to address these matters.

Creator and Organizer of the Clean Community Program for the City of Port Colborne.

Acting Director of Planning and Development Services, overseeing, Planning, Building and By-law Divisions.

Ron Hanson

Ron Hanson, C.E.T.

Cofounder of Municipal By-law Advisors Inc.

With over 47 years of progressive experience in civil engineering.

Graduate of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Civil Engineering Technology (Municipal).

Began Career in the Consulting Engineering Field, preparing designs, surveying and construction inspections of major municipal projects. 

Pivoted to the Municipal Engineering Field and moved through progressive management positions with the City of Port Colborne.

Retired as the Director of Engineering and Operations

Managed multiple capital works projects including storm, water, wastewater, bridges, and roadworks projects.

Capital works including pivotal infrastructure such as Vale Health and Wellness Centre, Operations Centre, and the Killaly Street West Bridge.

Traffic Engineering Services include the formulation of the Traffic and Parking By-law, which is the foundation of the regulations and prohibitions used today.

Other duties included writing reports for council deliberations, attending Council and Public Meetings to address and discuss council and public concerns and other administrative matters.

Perform duties as Acting CAO.

Representing the community and the municipality on various committees.

Career long member of OACETT for 50 + years.
